It’s time to get real and tackle this fear issue that we all seem to struggle with. Fear is a very real human emotion but fear shouldn’t stop you from moving forward, from setting goals, from dreaming your next dream.
I will be the first one to say that we are our biggest enemies. We are the thing that is standing in our own way. If you don’t think you can do it, you simply won’t. But you are deserving of MORE. You are deserving of that life you want to live; that one that you’re dreaming of but that feels out of reach.
“You’re going to leave your job because you’re unhappy? But how will you keep paying the bills?”
“You’re contemplating going back to school? But how are you going to make that work?”
“You’re making that change? But what about your family?”
“You’re not extending your contract? But what are you going to do now?”
“You need to get your head out of the clouds. That’s just not realistic for you right now.”
“You can’t focus on dreams like that. You have other people that are counting on you.”
“One day you’ll be able to chase after your own goals, but not now. Maybe in a few years.”
Has this been you? Have you been the one questioning someone who’s chosen to make a very big change in their lives? Ask yourself why you feel compelled to share these thoughts. Or have you been on the other end of these questions and judgements? How does this make you feel?
I have been on the other end and when I hear these things, it makes me sad and it makes me smile.
It makes me sad because of the very real judgement that exists and because I see this all the time. I see the people who desperately want to make a change – the people that get excited when they talk about their passions and their dreams and then I see that excitement disappear and I watch the fear creep in that stops them right in their steps. They dream for a moment and then that moment is gone and their “reality” sets in. Yet, we still look up to those people we know who have made a big change or those success stories that we see…and we find inspiration. So, why can’t you do it? Why can’t you make a change? Why is what’s out there in the unknown going to be scarier than your current situation? If you believe you can’t do it, if you believe it’s not possible, if you believe that things won’t align for you, then they won’t. It won’t be possible, and you won’t do it. But if you believe you can, if you have faith over fear, if you focus on the goal and work hard to get it, you WILL get it.
Now, it also makes me smile when I hear these things because I have NO doubts that I will be able to accomplish what I set my mind to. I don’t have those doubts because I have already accomplished so much, I have already set my mind to making big changes, and I have survived and grown. It is all about your mindset – it’s about reframing those thoughts and keeping your attention on your intentions. I smile because I know how I am going to do it, I know that I will make it work, I know that the bills will get paid, and I know that what’s around the next bend is going to be what’s supposed to happen for me next. I welcome those judgements and limiting beliefs – and I will be that person who accomplishes those goals and makes those scary changes despite them. You can be that person too – I wholeheartedly believe in you and the only thing that’s in your way is you, my dear.
Something I consistently preach to my clients is to have faith over fear. To reframe those negative thoughts. To crush those limiting beliefs. To believe in the bigger picture. To dream that big dream. To work hard and stay focused. To focus on caring and loving you. I promise you that having faith over fear feels better and will serve you better.
We live in a society where we are up against a lot of unknowns and there are things out of our control. I’m not sugarcoating that at all. But, what is in our control is how we choose to react to what happens to us – we can control our thoughts, our behaviours, and our attitudes.
I want to help you have faith that the next door that opens will lead you to the next opportunity and experience that you are meant to have. The one that will teach you that lesson that you have been needing to learn. That lesson that will expand your horizons and help you grow as a person.
That fear doesn’t have to be scary. That fear can be the one thing that propels you forward into your next greatest adventure. Every day we make choices. We can choose to stay where we are where it's safe and easy. Or we can choose to take the leap, to forge a new and exciting path, to live our lives boldly, and to choose happiness. In the words of Van Gogh, "Normality is a paved road: It's comfortable to walk but no flowers grow." Choose the path that will lead to beautiful flowers blooming and colouring your journey.
One day, when you look back on the story of your life, what do you want it to be? Don’t you want those chapters to be filled with meaning and rich experiences? You don’t want to look back on your life one day and have regrets.
Stop wishing and start doing. And if you need a push to get there, I’m here to get you on track.
The time is now. What better time to take a leap than at the beginning of a new decade? Your new chapter can start right now. There’s no reason why it can’t.
With love and strength, Sabrina
