It can be incredibly difficult to take the first step. The first step towards something new.
Fear is usually one of the first obstacles in our way. We are fearful of change – doing something new, something different from what we’re used to, something when we’re not sure of the outcome. It’s understandable and we’ve all probably felt fear of the unknown before.
I have been approached by many individuals since starting my coaching business. They say how great it is, how much they could use coaching with their career (and even some extra motivation in their life), and how they want to try it out and will reach out when they’re ready. So, what happens next?
How many individuals who want coaching actually take the first step? Well, a few do but many don’t. They’ll reach out again in a few weeks saying yes they think they’ll go through with starting coaching and then it’s radio silence again.
I resonate with each one of these individuals who have reached out. I have been there myself and I know how scary it can be to say yes to some coaching – to admit that you could use the help, to be brave enough to embark on a new adventure, and to be willing to commit the time and effort into the work to achieve your desired results. I’m here to tell you that it’s worth it. There is no better investment you can make than an investment in yourself.
There is never going to be a “right time” when everything falls perfectly into place and you finally find the time and energy to move forward – to take a leap in a new direction, to follow your gut, and go after your dream. You are in the driver’s seat and you can control which direction you are driving in and what your destination will be.
I am here to tell you that Sand to Pearl Coaching is committed to helping you – at whatever speed is best for you, with whatever you need to help you on your career and life journey.

I specialize in working with marginalized individuals from all walks of life – I have worked with at-risk youth, vulnerable newcomers, those struggling with mental health and/or addiction, those who are grieving and dealing with loss, individuals with serious financial difficulties, those on social assistance, people who have had contact with the justice system and with child welfare, those who have suffered from an eating disorder, individuals with a self-disclosed disability, post-secondary students, entrepreneurs, and more. Over 200 individuals I have worked with have grown with support from a Certified Career Development Practitioner and a Coach. I exercise non-judgment, compassion, and empathy and work from a strengths-based wellness approach to make you feel supported, listened to, and heard.
Remember that you have overcome all obstacles in your past. You are still here today and you are still moving. Why should your current struggles be any different? If you overcame every challenge in your past, you will overcome whatever is coming your way now!
Know that you are stronger than you realize. Have you proven this to yourself before? Think of your past challenges and how you have overcome them. You may have found power in yourself that you did not know was even there!
Establish your mantra or motto. One that has always resonated with me is the saying that “everything happens for a reason.” If a certain door that you had been working to get in front of doesn’t open for you, than trust that the right door is around the corner and will lead you to a better opportunity.
Don’t be afraid of failure – embrace it, learn to like it, and find the lesson in it. Fear and doubt kill more dreams than failure ever will.
I challenge you to take the first step. To be stronger than your fear. To find a reason to embark on a new adventure. If you don’t like something about your situation, change it. Believe there is a way and work to find it.
